Series of two tunicles
17th century
Tuscan Manifacture
Impruneta, The Treasure of Santa Maria
Lampas; silk and linen;
a) 107 x 131cm.; b) 108 x 132cm.
Source: Basilica of Santa Maria at Impruneta

The tunicle in silk lampas is decorated with a racemose pattern in white on a yellow background. Designed in a progressive echelon formation, the pattern is formed of a large, regularly repeated ogival and double-pointed stitching enclosing a squared palmette surrounded by leaves and flowers. This is a late 17th century replica of a pattern that was not only very popular in the 16th century but also in the centuries that
followed.
